Nearly every household in Lycoming County has either a car, truck, van, or recreational vehicle. All of these motor vehicles requires maintenance and many drivers maintain their own vehicles. What do you do with the used oil, old tires, and worn out batteries?
Motor Oil
Oil and water do not mix, so please do not pour your oil onto the ground or drop oil filled containers into drop off boxes.  Several service stations and retailers in Lycoming County accept used oil from residents.
The Lycoming County Resource Management Services maintains a list of those businesses which accept used oil (see list at right).
Tires
Tires are another common source of automotive waste. Tires can be recycled at the Lycoming County Landfill during normal business hours:
Mon-Fri 7:00 am - 4:30 pm
Saturday 7:00am - 12:00 noon
for a nominal fee of $3 each for auto or light truck tires (up to 16", P & LT series), $5 each for over-the-road truck tires (17"-22", R serires) or $96.75/ton. Larger size tires are also accpeted at a higher fee.  The Lycoming County RMS Transfer Station also accepts car and light truck tires for recycling.
Batteries
When purchasing a new battery for your vehicle, most auto repair facilities offer a cash discount or trade-in for your old battery. If you have an extra lead-acid battery that you need to dispose of, battery stores will often accept them or they may be dropped off at the battery recycling pad of the Lycoming County Landfill.
Attached is a listing of facilities offering battery recycling programs.  (Battery Recyling Programs)
