HISTORIC MOMENTS IN TIME

The Taber Museum in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA is named in honor ofThomas T. Taber Ill who was a local historian and Philanthropist. He had an extensive knowledge related to the golden days of railroads and the lumbering industry. He was the author of 13 books that included Sunset Along Susquehanna Waters, Williamsport Lumber Capital, Sawmills Among The Derricks and the Williamsport & Elmira Railroad. Mr. Taber died August 13, 2022 but his memory lives on along with his generosity and support for local history.

REGISTER OF WILLS

Mission is to protect all probates of deceased people. The Register has jurisdiction over and maintains the records of testamentary/administration, inventory of estates, first and final accounting and other miscellaneous documents in relation to the decedent's estate. 

Probate is the legal process of settling an Estate after a person has died.

A petition must be filed with the court and a personal representative must be appointed.

The Clerk of Orphans' Court  is responsible for performing the administrative record keeping duties of the court. The Clerk of Orphans' Court will process and maintain all guardianship documents for minors and incapacitated persons.

GENEALOGY

We are pleased to do simple genealogy requests from the Register and Recorder Office, if we have the time and adequate information available to us. For more involved genealogical  projects, please consult outside sources. For example, the Taber Museum is a good source of information in Lycoming County (570-326-3326). In addition to personal research, the museum is a helpful resource on residential (housing) research in addition to business historical research. History@DevelopingHistory.com is an email address for the museum. Also try https://tabermuseum.org/collections-research/genealogy. The James V. Browh Library (570-326-0536) is also a major source for genealogical information. Of course, there is always the Genealogical Society (LCGSgen@aol.com).

 

RECORDER OF DEEDS

Mission is to record, protect, preserve and reproduce legal documents that pertain to Real Estate in Lycoming County.

All document records of land since the year of 1795 in the Recorder of Deeds Office are available during regular office hours and are also available online at pa.uslandrecords.com.
