USDA Guaranteed Rural Housing Loan Program

Assist eligible applicants in buying their home by guaranteeing private lenders' loans

Families and individuals apply to local lenders (alternatively, families and  individuals can contact Tobin Lanes, Loan Specialist, USDA, Rural  Development at 717-237-2275 directly for personal  assistance).

Loans may be made to  purchase existing or new homes.  Population that can be served must reside  in Rural Areas with populations of 10,000 or less (see map insert for eligible  areas--same as for the Section 502 and 504  programs)

Who is geographically eligible?

The attached map shows the shaded areas within Lycoming County which are defined by USDA as being “urban,” thus, not eligible for USDA assistance.  County residents who reside OUTSIDE the shaded areas are considered “rural,” thus, are deemed geographically eligible for USDA to assist.  The boundary lines shown on the map are approximate – USDA should be consulted for a final determination of geographical eligibility.
