Disaster Communications Service (Amateur Radio)
Amateur radio is represented on the CCC by Wayne Robbins, who is a member of the County of Lycoming Disaster Communication Service, an organization of Amateur (Ham) Radio enthusiasts who volunteer during disaster events to provide radio communications among rescue workers, emergency shelters and to pass information to families and media. The DCS recruits volunteers, oversees local organizations of RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service) and ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service), and works closely with MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System) and with other county EMA organizations in our area. DCS offers several educational programs, including training and testing for amateur radio licenses.
