District Conservation Programs

Environmental Education

Teaching the value of natural resource conservation to schools, youth groups and the local community through a variety of specially tailored programs

Erosion and Sediment Pollution Control (E&S) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permitting Program (NPDES)

State programs in which the District is delegated certain responsibilities and authority by DEP. The District receives and investigates complaints, inspects earth disturbance sites, reviews erosion and sediment pollution control plans, acknowledges permits and assists the public to achieve voluntary compliance with state and federal regulations

Dirt and Gravel Roads Pollution Prevention Program

A water pollution abatement program that offers local municipalities special funding and technical support to repair, manage and maintain their dirt and gravel roads in environmentally safe ways.

Water Quality and Watershed Management

Efforts towards enhancing the quality of the Commonwealth's surface and ground water resources through assisting in the development and continued needs of watershed associations

Chesapeake Bay Program

A federal and state program that provides financial and technical assistance to livestock operators for the installation of Best Management Practices (BMP's) designed to reduce non-point source pollution from agriculture within the Chesapeake Bay watershed

Nutrient Management

A statewide regulatory and educational program designed to minimize surface and groundwater nutrient loads from agricultural operations and to increase farm profitability through proper nutrient management

Farmland Preservation Assistance

Support to the Farmland Preservation Board in the protection and promotion of the continued agricultural use of valuable lands by acquiring conservation easements in order to prevent the development or improvement of land for any purpose other than agricultural activities
